Why are teenage boys so secretive?

My son is almost 16 and for quite some time acts very secretive. I do not suspect a drug or alcohol problem, etc He is an intelligent, normal boy, but I wonder how much of his secretiveness is normal development and how much is just plain sneakiness? Why are teenage boys so secretive?
It's not being secretive, he just doesn't tell you everything. Think back to your childhood, were you completely open to your parents? Did they know about everything you did? I highly doubt it, keeping secrets is natural and normal, nobody is completely 100% open with everyone they know by choice, and if his secretiveness isn't interfering with grades or school and things like that then there is no need to worry. But if they are, I can see where you are coming from, but as you said he is a normal intelligent boy, so I find no reason to suspect anything is wrong. But just so you know, one of the first signs of danger is a slip in grades. Why are teenage boys so secretive?
don't worry about it.

as a parent i think you're maybe more inclined to think that his attempts to establish a life outside of the house are secretive, but he's just trying to create an image to fit his independence. you sound like a good, concerned parent, and as long as he's not doing drugs or engaging in risky behavior that could ruin the rest of his life i think you should allow him to figure some things out for himself, but still protect him if you see him heading down a bad road.
maybe he is hiding something from you bkz he know s you won't approve of it and maybe you would kick him out bkz of it (in his minD)

I do that all the time with my dad

he doesn't know i'm gay bkz he hates us he calls us ******* who burn in hell

so i sneak around and when he sleeps i invite friends over

so your son could be sneaking around because he knows you too well
Most teens are secretive. It is a part of development. They are learning that one does not have to be nor is it always smart to be totally open to everyone. In time, they discern what to keep to themselves and what to be open about.
he is alot like me i am 14 nearly 15 and i am very secretive to my parents because some of they stuff i don't want them to know like maybe he is gay or somthing but doesnt want you to know or he may be embarrased by somet thing but i wouldnt worry if i was you
Perhaps he is not being secretive but is rather a private person and has no desire to share personal details of his life with a nosy parent.
It's probably just his personality.

I'm very secretive and I'm a girl.

=P
Maybe he's just a pisces or scorpio - we're both really secretive signs by nature.
well when you were a teenager did you tell your parents everything...no...same situation here
