Barcelona in July 2008 - need hotel suggestions - somewhere where both parents and 2 teenage girls will like?

We're travelling to Barcelona in July 2008 with another couple and their teenage kids as well. Would love to hear suggestions on what hotels to stay in. Do the hotels near Las Ramblas have pools or do most people go to the beach? Any other suggestions would be most welcome - what to see, do, etc.

We stayed at the Apsis Splendid on Mutaner last year while in Barcelona and absolutely loved it. The rate was very reasonable, the rooms newly renovated, had large marble bathrooms, and is in an excellent location. I highly recommend checking them out. I found that most places in the city did not have a pool, rather people went to the beach...the train to beautiful Sitges (small, quaint, seaside village) is very convenient, cheap, and only takes about 30 minutes.
